Tatsunoko vs Capcom: Cross Generation of Heroes segue a linha das fusões protagonizadas pela Capcom, como Marvel vs Capcom e Capcom vs SNK. Sendo o sétimo título nessa linha, o jogo dessa vez mescla o universo de Ryu e Cia. com a gigante japonesa de animes Tatsunoko, conhecida por séries como Speed Racer e Science Ninja Team Gatchaman. Qualquer um que tenha tido algum contato com Marvel vs Capcom ou Capcom vs SNK vai reconhecer prontamente o estilo, tanto esteticamente como estrategicamente. Por parte desta última, vale colocar as lutas em duplas. Você vai escolher dois personagens, sendo que um deles sempre ficará como uma espécie de auxiliar.

Os personagens podem ser permutados a qualquer momento, inclusive quando se estiver no meio de um salto. Além disso, um especial pode ganhar uma “forcinha” extra na forma de outro especial, este vindo do personagem auxiliar. Entretanto, lutar em duplas só será possível para os personagens de tamanho médio. Gigantes como Gold Lightan e PTX-40A vão ter que se virar sozinhos mesmo.
